April Conference Twelve The Twelfth International Conference on English and American Studies

Languages, Literatures and Cultures in Contact: English and American Studies in the Age of Global Communication

April Conference is a triennial international conference which has been organized by the English Department at the Jagiellonian University since 1978. From the beginning, the Conference was planned as an opportunity to bring together scholars working in the various disciplines that make up English and American Studies. We will be pleased to accept papers on British and American literature, general and applied linguistics, translation and cultural studies, the teaching of English as a foreign language and other related topics. Since one of the aims of the conference is to integrate the various branches of English and American Studies, papers which are interdisciplinary in character are most welcome.

Over one hundred presentations were given at each April Conference. The presentations take place in sections (devoted to British and American literature, general and applied linguistics, translation and cultural studies, the teaching of English as a foreign language, and other areas). At each April Conference, the presentations are connected by a common theme. There are also five plenary lectures, given by distinguished scholars who present five different perspectives on the Conference theme. A selection of carefully edited papers is published after each Conference, usually in a two-volume edition.
