On 23 May 2012 an open lecture by Dr Aleksander Gomola "How Arabs saved Greek thought: the role of Arab translations in maintaining continuity of Western culture" was delivered in the JU Auditoriium Maximum.

It was part of a series of open lectures on the theory and practice of translation held by the UNESCO Chair in Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication in the academic year 2011/2012.
