The reception of Dante Alighieri's works in Poland has been and remains the subject of interest of many researchers—historians of literature, bibliographers, comparative scholars, translators, and others. However, the handwritten, unpublished translations of the Italian poet's works from the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, noted in the bibliography of J. Miszalska, M. Gurgul, M. Surma-Gawłowska, and M. Woźniak (2007), remain unexplored.

The project aims to investigate these translations in terms of codicology, history and literary content, and presenting them against the background of the socio-cultural situation at that time and in the context of Dante's European reception. The subject of research is the following manuscripts: PTPN ms. 705 - New Life, trans. A. Siekierski; ZNiO ms. 13879/I – Wieśnianki (the whole translation of Divine Comedy), trans. J. Guszkiewicz; ZNiO ms. 4460 / II, 4470 / II, 4504 / II - Boska Komedya, trans. St. Dembiński and the translations of excerpts from the Dantesque poem by M. Wiszniewski (BJ ms. 948/7), L. Kaminski (PTPN ms. 853), St. Konopka (ZNiO ms. 14372 / II), Wł. Chodzkiewicz (IRNBUV ms. 24/2682), A. Asnyk (ZNiO ms. 6981 / I), St. E. Koźmian (PAN-PAU Kraków, ms. 2212, vol. 2, sheet 14). On the other hand, the translation by J. I Kraszewski, whose development and editing was undertaken by A.F. De Carlo, is consciously omitted.

The results of the research will complete the picture of Dante’s Polish reception, which W. Preisner (1957), A. Litwornia (2005) and other researchers tried to recreate with great passion.
