JU UNESCO Chair lecturer, Agnieszka Pokojska receives the Ryszard Kapuściński Award

The Jury of the 2011 Ryszard Kapuściński Award for literary reportage, headed by Małgorzata Szejnert and consisting of Anders Bodegård, Joanna Bator, Maciej J. Drygas, and Piotr Mitzner, decided to give the award to Liao Yivu, the author of the book The Corpse Walker: Real-Life Stories, China from the Bottom Up. The award for the best translator was given to Wen Huang, who translated Liao Yivu's book into English and to Agnieszka Pokojska, who translated it from English into Polish. The Polish version was published in 2011 by Czarne publishing house.

The Corpse Walkeris a book which gives voice to the lower social classes of the modern-day China, showing a picture of Chinese society very much different from the one presented by the authorities and official media. The book has been banned in China.
