New Vice-deans of the Faculty of Philology elected

Dr hab. Dorota Szumska, a linguist from the JU Institute of Eastern Slavonic Studies and Dr hab. Władysław Witalisz, a literary scholar from the JU Institute of English Studies have been elected vice deans of the JU Faculty of Philology for the term 2012-2016. They will assume office from 1 September 2012, together with the new dean, Dr hab. Elżbieta Górska, Associate Professor.

Dorota Szumska has been the head of the JU Department of Russian Linguistics at the JU Department of East Slavonic Studies since 2001. She specializes in semantic research methods, text theory, and pragmatics, and has written more than 50 publications in these fields of research.

Dorota Szumska was one of the first scholarship winners of the George Soroš foundation (the present Stefan Batory foundation), which enabled her to do an Internship in Oxford. She also collaborated with the oldest Italian Slavic studies annual journal and has been a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.  

For her academic achievements, Professor Szumska has been bestowed numerous awards, including the Medal of National Education Commission and several JU Rector's awards.

Władysław Witalisz is an Anglicist and a medievalist. He studied in the USA, UK, and Germany and has been the Jagiellonian University staff member since 1986. His fields of interest include medieval and renaissance theatre, medieval mysticism, and parenetic discourse in medieval romance. He is the author of more than 50 publications.

Władysław Witalisz is the Erasmus programme coordinator in the JU Institute of English Studies. a member of the Polish Association for the Study of English and the International Boethian Society, and the Vice-rector for University Development at the State Higher Vocational School in Krosno.
